Error
Adding a lyr file to a map or importing a mxd generates a warning in the layer properties; "This layer comprise a subset of features. To access all features in the source data, clear the exclusion set from the Selection tab".

Solución alternativa
Go to the Selection tab and check the option to clear the list of excluded features or save the layer as lyrX to update the lyr file.
