The legend text items are partially displayed in ArcGIS Pro

Description

When a legend is added to a layout, the overflow symbol is displayed, and the legend text items are partially displayed in ArcGIS Pro.

Cause

This is by design. The legend text items are set to word wrap by default, causing the overflow symbol to display and the legend text items to partially display on the legend. This happens when the text items are too long and exceed the legend space.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the following methods to resolve the issue.

Configure the word wrapping settings

1. Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
2. In the Contents pane, right-click Legend and click Properties from the context menu.

3. In the Element pane, click Legend > Legend Arrangement Options.
4. Expand the Word wrapping node and uncheck the Labels and Descriptions check boxes.

5. Click Save to save the changes.

Change the feature layer's name

Changing the feature layer's name in the Contents pane reflects changes in the legend. Follow the workaround below to change the feature layer's name.

1. Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
2. In the Contents pane, right-click the respective feature layer and click Properties to open the Layer Properties window.

3. On the General tab, for the Name parameter, rename the feature layer to a simplified or shorter name. In this example, the Light_Rail_Lines_in_Portland feature layer is renamed to Light Rail Lines.
4. Click OK.

5. Click Save to save the changes.
