Change the unit of graticule labels in ArcGIS Pro

Summary

In ArcGIS Pro, changing the unit of graticule labels does not reflect any change in the layout. This is because configuring the unit using the Menu The Menu icon. button only controls the input options for longitudes and latitudes in the Element pane, as shown in the image below.

This article describes the workflow to change the unit of labels for the longitudes and latitudes of a graticule in ArcGIS Pro.

Procedure

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. Click the Layout tab to activate the layout view. The tab color turns blue.
  3. In the Contents pane, under Map Frame, expand Grids, right-click the graticule, and click Properties. In this example, Black Horizontal Label Graticule is selected.

  1. In the Element pane, click the Components tab, and ensure Labels is selected in the Components box.
  2. Expand Appearance, and change the unit of the labels in the Format text box. By default, the unit of the graticule label is in Degrees Minutes Seconds (dms). In this example, the unit is set to Decimal Degrees by replacing 'dms' with 'dd', as shown in the image below.

  1. Click Apply.
Note:
Replace 'dms' with 'ddm' to change the unit to Degrees Decimal Minutes. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Map frame tags for more information.
