Problem: The Apply Asset Package tool fails in ArcGIS Pro
Description
The Apply Asset Package tool defines the schema and properties of a utility network using an asset package. In some instances, attempts to run the Apply Asset Package tool fail and return multiple error messages in ArcGIS Pro.
Error: Apply Asset Package failed.
Error: Failed to execute (AssetPackageToUtilityNetwork).
Error: Apply Asset Package Failed. Invalid GlobalID error.
And in some cases, a warning message is returned, "This field is too long for some database platforms."
Cause
- The Create Utility Network tool instead of the Stage Utility Network tool is used before running the Apply Asset Package tool. The Stage Utility Network tool automatically enables editor tracking and adds the Global ID field if it is not already present, but the Create Utility Network tool does not have the same functionality, resulting in the Apply Asset Package tool to fail.
- Incomplete installation of the asset package.
- Data corruption or invalid data is used.
- Incorrect asset package is used.
- The number of characters in the geodatabase field name exceeds the maximum number.
Solution or Workaround
Use one of the methods below to resolve the issue.
Note: To use the utility network, users must be assigned a license for the ArcGIS Utility Network user type extension.
Run the Stage Utility Network tool instead of the Create Utility Network tool
In ArcGIS Pro, run the Stage Utility Network tool before running the Apply Asset Package tool.
Reinstall the Utility Network Package Tools toolbox
In ArcGIS Pro, recreate the Python project environment and reinstall the Utility Network Package Tools toolbox using the Python Package Manager with an updated version of the untools package. Refer to Utility Network Package Tools: Install the Utility Network Package Tools toolbox for instructions.
Restart ArcGIS Pro
Close the current session of ArcGIS Pro, and restart the local machine. Start ArcGIS Pro, create a new enterprise or file geodatabase, then run the Stage Utility Network and Apply Asset Package tools.
Reinstall ArcGIS Pro
Warning: The instructions below include making changes to essential parts of the operating system. Esri recommends performing a backup of the operating system and files, including the registry, before proceeding. Esri cannot guarantee results from incorrect modifications while following these instructions. Exercise caution. Consult a qualified computer systems professional if necessary.
Perform a clean uninstall by referring to Esri Belux: Clean uninstall of ArcGIS Pro. After performing a clean uninstall, reinstall ArcGIS Pro following the instructions in ArcGIS Pro: Install ArcGIS Pro.
Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS
For users using an enterprise geodatabase, upgrade Portal for ArcGIS to the latest version. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Upgrade your ArcGIS Enterprise portal for instructions.
Complete the installation of the asset package
Ensure the local machine is connected to the internet connection before installing the asset packages.
Use the correct asset package
In ArcGIS Pro, ensure the asset package containing valid data is used when running the Apply Asset Package tool.
Limit the number of characters in the field name
The maximum number of characters allowed by ArcGIS for a field name is 31. In ArcGIS Pro, edit the desired field name to not exceed 31 characters in the geodatabase before using the data to run the Apply Asset Package tool. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Enterprise geodatabase size and name limits for more information.
