Unable to share location in ArcGIS Field Maps

Description

The location of mobile workers is tracked and recorded using ArcGIS Field Maps. Despite having ‘Location sharing’ enabled by the organization and the ArcGIS Tracker add-on license assigned, at times, the My Tracks map card toggle button is disabled and the message ‘Sharing is Unavailable’ is displayed upon launching ArcGIS Field Maps, as shown in the image below.

Cause

• The member’s default role has insufficient privileges to share the location.
• ‘View location tracks’ is disabled.
• ‘View content shared with organization’ is disabled.

Solution or Workaround

Change the role of the user with the privilege to share the location

Note:
Only default administrators and custom roles with administrator privileges can perform the following workflow.

In ArcGIS Online, change the user’s role to User, Publisher, or Administrator. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Roles and ArcGIS Online: Change member roles for further instructions.

Enable 'View location tracks' for the member's custom role

1. Log in to ArcGIS Online and click Organization > Settings.
2. Click Member roles on the left of the page.
3. Browse to the custom role, click More options and select Edit.
4. In the Edit role window, under Role privileges, expand General privileges > Content, and toggle View location tracks on.

5. Click Save.

Enable ‘View content shared with organization’ for the member’s custom role

1. Log in to ArcGIS Online and click Organization > Settings.
2. Click Member roles on the left of the page.
3. Browse to the custom role, click More options and select Edit.
4. In the Edit role window, under Role privileges, expand General privileges > Content, and toggle View content shared with the organization on.

5. Click Save.

The message 'Location Sharing Off' is displayed and location sharing can now be enabled in ArcGIS Field Maps.
