The sorted coded value domain is not retained in the ArcGIS Pro Domains view

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, sorting the coded value domain (code or description) in the Domains view and checking the 'Save sorted order' check box fails to retain the new order. Clicking Save after checking the 'Save sorted order' check box returns the original order of the coded value domain.

Cause

This is by design. The 'Save sorted order' option does not retain the modified coded value domain order in the Domains view.

Solution or Workaround

To sort the code or description of a coded value domain in either ascending or descending order, use the Sort Coded Value Domain tool.

1. In the Geoprocessing pane, navigate to Toolboxes > Data Management Tools > Domains > Sort Coded Value Domain.
2. Fill in the tool parameters. Refer to Parameters for more information. In this example, the Code value of the Type domain is sorted in ascending order.

3. Click Run to run the tool.
4. Open the Domains view to view the sorted coded value domain. The image below shows the Code value of the Type domain is sorted in ascending order.

The sorted coded value domain is reflected in the attribute table when selecting the code values from the drop-down list of the field assigned to the domain.
