Add multiple images to an existing survey in the ArcGIS Survey123 field app inbox

Summary

In the ArcGIS Survey123 field app, it is possible to add multiple images to existing survey data. This is helpful when editing to improve survey data accuracy. This article describes the workflow to add multiple images to an existing survey in the Survey123 field app inbox.

Procedure

Note:
The feature class is derived from collected data in the survey. If the collected data has a multipoint geometry type, use the Feature to Point tool in ArcGIS Pro to create a feature class before proceeding with the workflow below.
  1. Publish the feature class as a feature service from ArcGIS Pro to ArcGIS Online.
    1. In ArcGIS Pro, log in to the ArcGIS Online organization account.
    2. On the top ribbon, click the Map tab. In the Layer group, click the Add Data icon to add the feature class to the map.
    3. In the Contents pane, right-click the feature class, and click Sharing > Sharing as Web Layer.
    4. In the Share As Web Layer pane, click the Configuration tab.
    5. Click the Configure Layers icon > Configure Web Layer Properties.

  1. In the Feature Properties section, check the Enable editing and allow editors to: and Enable Sync check boxes. Click Publish > Manage the Web Layer.

  1. Add the begin repeat, image, and end repeat question types to the XLSForm in Survey123 Connect.
    1. In Survey123 Connect, click the New Survey button, select Feature service, and click the feature service published in Step 1.

  1. Click Create survey > XLSForm tab.
  2. Add the begin repeat, image, and end repeat question types to the XLSForm.

  1. In the XLSForm, click the Settings tab, and delete the item in the submission_url column.
  2. Save the XLSForm, and save the form on the desktop.
  1. Create a new survey from the saved XLSForm in Step 2, and publish the survey to ArcGIS Online.
    1. In Survey123 Connect, click the New Survey button, select File, and add the saved XLSForm from the desktop.
    2. Click the Options tab, toggle on the Enable Inbox folder option, and toggle off the Enable Sent folder option.

  1. Click Publish > Publish Survey.
  1. Open the survey's hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro.
    1. In Survey123 Connect, click the More actions icon > View item in <Organization_name>.
    2. In ArcGIS Online, on the item details page of the published survey form, click the layer in the Layers section.

  1. On the item details page of the hosted feature layer, click Open in ArcGIS Desktop, and select Open in ArcGIS Pro.
  1. Double-click the downloaded .pitemx file to open in ArcGIS Pro.
  1. Append the feature class data from Step 1 to the hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro.
    1. In ArcGIS Pro, click the Analysis tab > Tools.
    2. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for the Append tool.
    3. Select the feature class for Input Dataset, the hosted feature layer for Target Dataset, and Use the Field Map to reconcile schema differences for Schema Type. Click Run.
  1. Download the survey in the Survey123 field app, and add the desired images.
    1. In the ArcGIS Survey123 field app, click the Profile icon > Download Surveys.

  1. Click the download The image of download icon. icon to download the survey published in Step 3. Click the back The image of 'back' icon. icon.
  2. Click the downloaded survey, and click Inbox. Click Refresh to view the list of submissions for each feature in the hosted feature layer.
  3. Select an existing record, and add the images.
