Group exports fail when the hosting ArcGIS GIS Server is federated with the ArcGIS Enterprise portal using the web adaptor URL for both the services and administration URLs

Last Published: July 28, 2020

Description

Group exports fail when the hosting ArcGIS GIS Server is federated with the ArcGIS Enterprise portal using the web adaptor URL for both the services and administration URLs.

These settings can be checked through the Portal Administrator endpoint, i.e.,
https://gisserver.domain.com:7443/arcgis/portaladmin/federation/servers/...

For example:
  • Name: gisserver.domain.com
  • Id: [unique federeation ID]
  • Url:  https://gisserver.domain.com/server
  • Role: HOSTING_SERVER
  • Admin Url: https://gissserver.domain.com/server

In the logs, you will see the following warning:

WARNING:
Failed to export item 'eb9fe0c6ff0444ecbfd53029d5a12327' into an export package : 'java.lang.Exception: Server returned HTTP status code 404.

Cause

The group export fails because the web adaptor web server blocks downloading the export result, which is a .SD file.

This issue is associated with a known defect:
BUG-000130996 : Group exports fail when the hosting ArcGIS GIS Server is federated with the ArcGIS Enterprise portal using the web adaptor URL for both the services and administration URLs.

Workaround

This can be resolved by manually updating the web server to support the .SD item type.

For IIS the steps are:

  1. Open IIS Manager.
  2. Click the machine name in the Connections pane.
  3. Select Request Filtering under IIS settings.
  4. If .sd is set as false. Click it and select Delete in the Actions pane.
  5. Select Allow Files Name Extensions.
  6. Type .sd. This should add the .sd extension with Allowed True.
  7. Restart IIS. (optional)

If this problem is still encountered after following these steps, please contact Esri Technical Support to resolve this issue.
