PROBLEM

Incorrect Help guide installed with ArcGIS License Manager 2019.2

Last Published: August 27, 2023

Description

The License Manager Reference Guide installed locally with ArcGIS License Manager 2019.2 contains incorrect information regarding the configuration of Named User license files on cloud and on-premise virtual hypervisor machines.

Cause

Currently, information contained within this particular topic highlights that VM_GENID and VM_UUID machine identifiers, accessed via the License Server Administrator Machine IDs button, can be used to configure Named User license files in My Esri.  This information is incorrect and the MAC address should continue to be used to configure Named User license files in My Esri. Furthermore, the configuration of Named User license files will continue to require that the License Server host machine, in the cloud or in a virtual machine, maintains a continuous MAC address to prevent the Named User license file being broken.  The functionality to allow the full support of Named User license files with ArcGIS License Manager in the Cloud and Virtual Environments is expected with the ArcGIS License Manager 2020.0 release.

Solution or Workaround

Please refer to the current and correct topic on the Esri website at: Configure License Manager for use with ArcGIS Enterprise Portal for configuring ArcGIS License Manager 2019.2 for use with ArcGIS Enterprise, and the Esri technical paper on Cloud Licensing for the latest up to date information on using ArcGIS License Manager in the cloud.
