Frequently asked question

Is it possible to auto-populate a date field in Collector for ArcGIS?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

The auto-populate date field functionality automatically logs the date and time when an edit is made. However, it is not possible to auto-populate a date field in Collector for ArcGIS. As a workaround, the owner or the administrator of the organization can enable editor tracking of the hosted feature layers in ArcGIS Online. Editor tracking automatically logs dates and names of creators or last editors of the hosted feature layers in Collector for ArcGIS.

Note:
The date field displays the time the device is used to collect data but time is stored in the UTC time format in ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Published date fields store time in UTC for more information.

To enable editor tracking of hosted feature layers, check the Keep track of who created and last updated features option on the Settings tab of the hosted feature layers details page. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Allow others to edit for more information. To view the date field, open the attribute table of the hosted feature layers.

Note:
If the date field is not visible in the attribute table, click Options, select Show/Hide Columns, and check the created_date check box. Refer to ArcGIS Online: View attributes and related records for more information.
