PROBLEM

ArcGIS Pro 2.4 crashes when running Business Analyst geoprocessing tools

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

ArcGIS Pro 2.4 crashes upon running any Business Analyst geoprocessing tool if Business Analyst for ArcMap is installed on the machine in use, and an empty ‘Custom Data Collections’ folder exists within the ‘My Output Data’ folder. This folder is located on the drive where the Business Analyst Extension for ArcMap is installed. With standard installation, the path is: C:\My Output Data\Custom Data Collections.

Note:
This issue is only encountered if the Business Analyst Data Source in ArcGIS Pro is set to a locally installed Business Analyst dataset.

Cause

Business Analyst expects to find files in the ‘Custom Data Collections’ folder and crashes ArcGIS Pro when attempting to read them into the Data Collections cache.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Ensure the ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro applications are closed.
  2. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the My Output Data folder, make a copy, and paste to a location such as ‘C:\Temp.’
  3. Navigate back to My Output Data and open the Custom Data Collections folder to ensure that it is empty.
  4. If the folder is empty, delete it.
  5. Re-open ArcGIS Pro.

Once the empty Custom Data Collections folder is deleted from within My Output Data, Business Analyst geoprocessing tools run to completion and create output as expected.
