Sideload tile packages to the ArcGIS Survey123 field app

Summary

Tile packages (.tpk) and Vector Tile packages (.vtpk) are a set of tiles (images) from a map or raster dataset used as basemaps in ArcGIS Survey123. To use these tile packages offline, they can be sideloaded onto a mobile device. This article details the steps to sideload tile packages in the ArcGIS Survey123 field app.

Procedure

For Android devices

1. Connect the Android device to a computer.
2. Open File Explorer.
3. Search for the device. By default, it can be found under Computer (Windows 7) or This PC (Windows 10).

4. Navigate to the following directory, and place the tile package in the Maps folder.

This PC\<Android Device>\Internal Storage\ArcGIS\My Surveys\Maps

5. ​​​​The tile package displays in the Survey123 for ArcGIS field app on the device when inputting a GeoPoint location.

iOS devices

1. Ensure iTunes is installed on the computer.
2. Connect the iOS device to the computer and launch iTunes.
3. Click on the device icon once the device is successfully connected to iTunes.
4. Select File Sharing in the left pane.
5. Select Survey123 in the Apps column.
6. Select the ArcGIS folder. Click Save....

7. Select a location to save the ArcGIS folder.
8. Open the newly saved ArcGIS folder, and navigate to ArcGIS > My Surveys > Maps. Paste the tile package in the Maps folder.
9. Drag the ArcGIS folder onto the Survey123 Documents pane in iTunes.

10. Select Replace when prompted.

11. Once the folder is imported, opening a GeoPoint question in the Survey123 for ArcGIS field app displays the tile package under Map Types.
