HOW TO

Extract locations to a custom field schema using the ArcGIS LocateXT extension in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

When extracting locations using the ArcGIS LocateXT extension and a custom attribute file (.lxtca) in ArcGIS Pro, the content extracted from the scanned document or text is stored in custom attributes in the output feature class's attribute table. If a new output feature class is created to store the extracted locations, the feature class contains the default fields, and any additional fields defined by a custom attribute file. The image below shows the attribute fields of extracted locations using the ArcGIS LocateXT extension and a custom attribute file.

In some instances, the output feature class attribute field(s) must follow a custom user-defined field schema (for example, specific fields' order, name, or alias) to store the attributes extracted using the custom attribute file. The Field Matching function allows mapping of the scanned attributes using the custom attribute file to fields in a custom schema. The scanned outputs are extracted and appended to the custom field schema, eliminating the need for post-scan schema editing.

The following instructions describe how to extract locations to a custom field schema using the ArcGIS LocateXT extension in ArcGIS Pro.

Note:
This workflow requires the LocateXT license.

The image below is an example of a new feature class's attribute table containing the custom field schema to match the attributes scanned using a custom attribute file (.lxtca) in later steps.
