FAQ: Is it possible to rank responses in order of importance in Survey123 for ArcGIS?

Question

Is it possible to rank responses in order of importance in Survey123 for ArcGIS?

Answer

No, it is not possible to rank responses in order of importance in Survey123 for ArcGIS. However, as a workaround, use the Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS application. In the application, create multiple questions and take the rank as a response in a single-choice type question.

In the example below, five types of birds are ranked in the survey using the select_one question type by adding an expression in the constraint field. Below are the steps to rank responses in order of importance:

  1. In Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS, create a new survey.
  2. In the XLSform, use note as a question type to display a note on the screen and fill in the label field.
Use note as a question type
  1. Use select_one as a question type and fill in the name and label field.
Use select_one as a question type
  1. In the constraint field enter the following expression for each row:
(.!= ${rankJay} ) and (.!= ${rankRobin} ) and (.!= ${rankEagle} ) and (.!= ${rankNuri} )
Note:
For the expression, depending on each row, do not include the same name as in the label field. Enter other names to rank the question.
  1. In the appearance field, select minimal from the drop-down list for each row.
Enter an expression for each row
  1. Click Save to save the XLSForm.

In the Form Preview of the Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS application, complete the survey by ranking the types of birds. Click Validate Input to validate the result. For more information, refer to Survey123 for ArcGIS: Data validation.
