Failed to backup the ArcGIS for Server

Error Message

When ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS/ArcGIS Data Store are deployed on different machines, attempting to export a backup via the webgisdr utility returns the following error message:

Error:   
Failed to backup the ArcGIS for Server. Admin URL: https://<ArcGIS Server URL>:6443/arcgis/admin. { code:500, Export operation failed. Failed to create the folder \\\\<location_of_backup_folder>}

Cause

The local 'arcgis' service account password for the ArcGIS Server machine differs from the 'arcgis' service account password for the Portal for ArcGIS/ArcGIS Data Store machine.

Solution or Workaround

Perform any of the workarounds listed below to resolve.

Ensure the password for the local 'arcgis' service accounts on both machines match

1. Log in to the Portal for ArcGIS/ArcGIS Data Store machine with an administrative account.
2. Click the Windows Start button, and navigate to ArcGIS > Configure ArcGIS Server Account.
3. Follow the steps outlined in ArcGIS Enterprise: Changing the ArcGIS Server account to change the password for the 'arcgis' service account to match the password of the same service on the ArcGIS Server machine.
4. Run the webgisdr utility to export the ArcGIS Server site.

Use the ArcGIS Server Backup utility

1. Navigate to the following location on the ArcGIS Server machine:

C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\tools\admin

2. Run the backup utility to export the ArcGIS Server site. For more information on the backup utility and its parameters, refer to ArcGIS Server: Backup utility.
