Error Message

Attempts to import a feature class containing CAD data into a geodatabase fail, and return the following error message:

Error:
WARNING 000594: Input feature <value>: falls outside of output geometry domains

Cause

This issue occurs if the feature class contains CAD data. When using AutoCAD 2016, the DWG file format version is not supported by ArcMap version 10.4 and prior. Hence, when attempting to import a feature class containing CAD data to a geodatabase, the process fails.
Additionally, when using other variants of AutoCAD such as Civil 3D or Land Desktop, the features generated by these programs are created using the ObjectARX API. Data created using the ObjectARX API uses a custom code which ArcMap does not have access to.

Note:
As of ArcMap version 10.5, the DWG file format version for AutoCAD 2016, and AutoCAD 2017 are supported.

Solution or Workaround

There are two possible workarounds:
Import the Schema
Importing the schema prior to importing a feature class containing CAD data allows users to proceed with the importing process. To do so:
  1. Create a new feature class.
  2. Import the schema of the feature class containing CAD data.
  3. Import the feature class containing the CAD data to the new feature class. For more information, refer to ArcGIS Help: Importing feature datasets, classes, and tables from an XML workspace document.
Disable M and Z values
Disabling M and Z values allows users to import the feature class containing the CAD data. To do so:
  1. Navigate to Geoprocessing > Environments, and disable M and Z values.

  1. Copy the feature class to a new feature class.
  2. Save the new feature class.
