PROBLEM

Spatial data are not displayed in the feature class properties

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

In some instances, a feature class does not display spatial data such as bounding boxes and polygon features, even if the attribute table displays as expected. Clicking the Zoom To Layer option in the Table Of Contents causes the features to disappear.

Cause

This issue occurs when the extent of the feature class does not match the spatial index bounding box values of the file geodatabase.

Solution or Workaround

Resolve the issue by recalculating the feature class extent, as described in the following steps.

  1. In ArcMap, navigate to the Catalog window, and right-click the feature class.
  2. Select the Properties option to open the Feature Class Properties window.
  3. Open the Feature Extent tab, and click the Recalculate button under the XY Extent section.
  4. Click Apply and OK to close the window.

Alternatively, use the Recalculate Feature Class Extent tool. This tool is only available with ArcGIS Desktop 10.4 and above.
