HOW TO

Publish a hosted service to a specific folder in the My Content page on ArcGIS Online

Last Published: April 26, 2020

Summary

Publishing a hosted feature service from ArcMap to ArcGIS Online automatically publishes the service to the 'username' (Home) folder in the My Content page of the ArcGIS Online organization. When content is published as a service from ArcMap, the destination folder can be specified to one other than the Home folder with the following steps.

Procedure

  1. Open the map document in ArcMap and choose File > Sign In to sign into ArcGIS Online.
  2. Click File > Share As > Service.
  3. Choose 'Publish a service' and click Next.
  4. Select 'My Hosted Services' from the 'Choose a connection' drop-down menu.
  5. Under 'Service Name' add the folder name of an existing folder from the My Content page, followed by a forward slash (/) and the new service name.

    Note:
If the folder does not exist, or the folder name is incorrect, an error is returned.

    • Folder names are case-sensitive.
    • A folder must be created in ArcGIS Online prior to publishing.

  6. After setting the folder and service name, the Service Editor can be completed as necessary.
When logging back into arcgis.com, the service is published directly to the desired folder rather than the Home folder.
