PROBLEM

The Add Laterals at Connections and the Add Laterals from Line Locations tools do not work as expected in ArcMap

Last Published: June 9, 2021

Description

When adding laterals using the Add Laterals at Connections and the Add Laterals from Line Locations tools in the Water Utility Network Editing toolbar, the tools do not work as expected. In some cases, ArcMap crashes, or no activity occurs. Laterals are not added, and no error messages are generated.

Note:
The Add Laterals at Connections tool draws a line from each point to the nearest feature in a line layer, whereas the Add Laterals from Line Locations tool draws a line from each point perpendicular to the line the point intersects.

Cause

This issue occurs because the names of feature classes used to add the laterals are not the same as in the configuration file (Loaded.config), and thus, the names are not sourced back to the file.

Solution or Workaround

Modify the Loaded.config configuration file, and ensure the feature class name used to add the laterals matches the data name in the Add Laterals section of the file. For more information, refer to the Add Laterals from Connections and the Add Laterals from Line Locations sections of the following ArcGIS Help document, Configuring the Water Utility Editing tools.
