Error 1720: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run

Error Message

When installing ArcPad 10.2 or 10.2.1, the following error may be returned:

"Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action CUSTOM_CHECKS script error -2147217406, : Line..."

This error is specific to Windows Vista, Windows 7, and the Windows 8 operating systems.

Cause

This error stems from the fact that the Built-in Administrator Account is disabled by default in all clean installations and upgrades of Windows Vista, 7, and 8. The administrator account in these versions of Windows does not have the same settings as this role does on Windows XP, so users may need to modify some settings within Windows to enable the Administrator account.

Solution or Workaround

1. Enable the Built-In Administrator account for Windows by following the steps described in the links to Microsoft documentation in the Related Information section.
2. Right-click the ArcPad.exe file and click 'Run as administrator'.
