Frequently asked question

Why does the license server log show a user accessing the license server even when they are not at work or their desk?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

Indexing is set to every hour by default, which causes the license to be checked out without user intervention.

Indexing is an important operation that enables detailed searches in both ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS for Server. By default, the indexer runs once every hour and keeps registered folder indexes up-to-date. In ArcGIS, users may pause indexing indefinitely using the Index/Search Options dialog box, and may resume indexing as and when needed. This allows the user to control when they want to manually refresh their indexes.
