Error 001053: Invalid Cache Location when importing a previously exported cache

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

Note:
This article pertains to ArcGIS versions 9.x and 10.0 only. Later versions of ArcGIS may contain different functionality, as well as different names and locations for menus, commands and geoprocessing tools.

The 10.0 and earlier versions of ArcGIS Server required you to create an account called the SOC account and grant it permissions to all data folders. If you already have an SOC account and its permissions in place, you can specify it as the account that runs ArcGIS Server. This can reduce or eliminate the reassigning of permissions you need to perform during migration. See: Upgrade ArcGIS Server 10.0 to later versions

When importing a previously exported cache, the following error is returned:

"Error 001053: Invalid Cache Location"

Cause

  • There may be invalid characters, such as periods (.), ampersands (&), or percent signs (%), in the file path to the cache to be imported.
  • The Server Object Container (SOC) has insufficient access permissions to write to this location.

Solution or Workaround

  • Using Windows Explorer, remove any invalid characters from the file path of the previously exported cache before importing.
  • Make sure the specified cache location is valid and that the SOC has access permissions to write to this location.
