PROBLEM

The Show Standardization button in the Find dialogue is not available in ArcGIS 10

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

In the Find dialogue (Locations tab) in ArcGIS 10, the Show Standardization button is not visible if a locator created with an ArcGIS 10 locator style is being used. However, if a locator built with an ArcGIS 9.x style is being used, the Show Standardization button is visible.

Cause

Standardization is not part of the geocoding process with ArcGIS 10 locators; a more flexible grammar parsing process is used. However, 9.x locator styles still use standardization. This is why the button is only available with locators created with a 9.x style.

Solution or Workaround

If it is necessary to use standardization in the geocoding process, the 9.3.1 locator styles can be added to the locators list and used in ArcGIS 10 using the following workflow:

  1. Go to the 9.3.1 Locator Styles page and click Download.

  2. Extract the contents of the zip file and copy and paste the contents (all the .lot files) to the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Locators
