Problem: ArcPad Data Manager extension is not visible in ArcMap 10
The ArcPad Data Manager extension is not visible in ArcMap after installing ArcPad v10.2.x with ArcGIS Desktop 10.x installations.
Sometimes this occurs when ArcPad was installed prior to installing ArcGIS Desktop v10.x, yet this may occur more often with clean ArcGIS Desktop and ArcPad installations on Windows OS platforms.
The ArcPadToolsGen2.dll file did not register properly.
Solution or Workaround
For the ArcPad Data Manager extension to appear in ArcMap, it is necessary to manually register the ArcPadToolsGen2.dll file.
- Close any running instances of ArcMap or ArcCatalog and open the Windows Command Prompt by clicking Start > Run and typing cmd on a Windows XP machine, or typing cmd in the global search dialog box in Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 environments.
Note: In Windows 8.1 and 10, it is necessary to right-click cmd.exe and click Run as administrator.
- Type the following text into the command prompt as a single line, including the quotation marks, modifying the ArcPad version number:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin\.dll"EsriRegAsm.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.2\DesktopTools10.0\ArcPadToolsGen2" /p:desktop
- Click Register in the Register ArcGIS Assembly dialog box.
The ArcPad Data Manager extension and toolbar is available the next time ArcMap is opened yet must be activated prior to use. In ArcGIS Desktop 10.3x and later, navigate to Customize > Extensions and check the box next to ArcPad Data Manager to enable the ArcPad Data Manager extension.
