Problem: Unable to retain Estonian character using sde2shp command
On Windows platform, when using sde2shp command to export ArcSDE Feature class containing Estonian characters, some special characters are not exported correctly to the shapefile.
ArcInfo does not recognize Estonian with code page cp775.
Solution or Workaround
Use LANG setting of Lithuanian, which is the next closest language to code page cp775.
- On Windows, change the locale to Estonian by going to Control Panel > Language Options > Regional Options dialog box, set 'Standards and formats' to Estonian; on the Advanced Tab, set 'Language for non-Unicode programs' to Estonian.
- Open a command prompt window and type in the following commands:
Active code page: 775
Issue the following sde2shp command,
> sde2shp -o init -l <sde_FC>,shape -f exported_shapefile.shp -t polygon -a all -s <server> -i <service_name> -u <user> -p <password>
