Frequently asked question

In the GPT 3.1 Map Viewer, why did the Place Finder stop working?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

As of July 1, 2009, ArcWeb services will no longer be available. If the GPT 3.1 instance relied on ArcWeb Services, the Place Finder will no longer work. Update the ArcExplorerWeb.properties in the ArcExplorer Web application to reference a non-ArcWeb service.

To update the ArcExplorer Web.properties, follow the steps below:

1) Open the ArcExplorerWeb.properties file from the \\webapps\arcexplorer\WEB-INF\classes folder.

2) Find the following section, and comment it out as shown below.

# ArcWeb login info, needed for PlaceFinder and AddressFinder
# if you do not use ArcWeb service for place/address finder, comment them out or leave them blank
# arcweb.username=<username>
# arcweb.password=<password>
#arcweb.username=
#arcweb.password=

3) Search up in the file for the 'Place Finder URL' section, and set this to an operational gazetteer service that is not reliant on ArcWeb services.

4) Save the file.

5) Restart Tomcat for changes to take effect.
