In ArcPad, GPS and rangefinder protocols are missing from the drop-down menus in the preferences window

Description

After installing ArcPad 8.0, several of the GPS protocols and all of the rangefinder protocols are missing from the drop-down menus in the preferences window.

Cause

These protocols, unlike at previous versions of ArcPad, are not installed by default. They need to be manually added.

Solution or Workaround

1. Click the Options pull-down menu and navigate to Advanced Settings.
   
   
2. In the Advanced Settings window, scroll all the way to the right and click the Extensions tab.
3. Check the boxes next to the desired protocols. The GPS protocols have a satellite icon next to them. The rangefinder protocols have a pulse icon next to them.
   
   
4. Click the green OK button when finished and restart ArcPad. The protocol drop-down menus should now be populated with the selections made in step 3.
