Bug: Unable to store the address locator. Locator cannot be validated
Attempting to connect to the Address Locator in a SQL Server 2005 ArcSDE 9.2 database from an ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 client using direct connect results in the following error message:
"Unable to store address locator. Locator cannot be validated. (Initialization of the standardization rules failed:....Reason-Operation failed)".
Rebuilding the existing locator in ArcSDE 9.2 and using ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 results in the following error message:
"The address locator is damaged. Would you like to repair it? Error executing SSA function [Reference data table is either missing or inaccessible]".
This is a known issue.
This issue can be addressed in one of three ways:
- Update the ArcSDE server to version 9.3.
- Use a 3-tier connection with ArcSDE 9.2 server, instead of direct connect.
- Copy locators to a file geodatabase or personal geodatabase and use them for geocoding.
