Problem: Pan and zoom performance using GCS data in a Personal Geodatabase is slow compared to ArcSDE or File Geodatabase

Pan and zoom performance using Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) data in a personal geodatabase is slow when compared to using the same data in an ArcSDE or File geodatabase.

When loading GCS data into a personal geodatabase with Feature Class to Feature Class, the spatial index grid size defaults to 1000. While this is a reasonable spatial index grid size for projected coordinate system data, it is not a good choice for GCS data.

Solution or Workaround

Do not use the default spatial index grid size. Set it to 0.1 or the number calculated by the GP Calculate Default Spatial Grid Index tool.
