FAQ: Is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 log shipping supported with ArcSDE geodatabases?
Is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 log shipping supported with ArcSDE geodatabases?
Setting up Microsoft SQL Server 2005 log shipping for ArcSDE geodatabases is done the same way as setting up log shipping for other SQL Server 2005 databases. The only things to be aware of when using log shipping with ArcSDE for SQL Server geodatabases, are the following:
1. If using the multiple spatial database model for an ArcSDE geodatabase, log shipping must be enabled on all the databases that participate in the geodatabase. Full backups of all databases must be created on the primary server and restored on the standby server. Lastly, all the databases that participate in the geodatabase must be brought online at the same time.
2. While the standby database is in read-only mode, it is not possible to connect to it through an ArcSDE service or direct connect drivers.
For instructions on setting up log shipping, see the SQL Server Books Online topic Log Shipping and its related topics including "Understanding Log Shipping" and "Configuring Log Shipping".
