Receiving HTTP 500 Error when launching Esriadmin, MetadataExplorer, WMS Connector, or WFS Connector

Error Message

When launching one of the Web applications for ArcIMS, such as the Service Administrator (Esriadmin), Metadata Explorer, WMS Connector, or WFS Connector, the following error is received:

"HTTP 500 Error

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request."

Cause

The error is possibly due to the Java Software Development Kit (SDK) not having been installed.

These Web applications require a Java compiler to be available for the servlet engine used (e.g. Tomcat or ServletExec). The Java compiler file tools.jar is installed with the Java Developer Kit.
