ERROR

Max feature limit was exceeded for one or more WFS services!

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

When loading or redrawing a map that includes a Web Feature Server (WFS) service in the GPT 3.1 Map Viewer, the following error message is displayed: "Max feature limit was exceeded for one or more WFS services!". After closing the dialog box, the map displays only a portion of the features from the WFS service.

Cause

The WFS service has more features than the Map Viewer has been configured to allow. By default, the maximum features permitted is 100. In this case, if the WFS service has more than 100 features, the message dialog box pops up.

Solution or Workaround

The maximum number of features allowed is a customizable variable in the MapViewer's ArcExplorerWeb.properties file. This variable can be set to any number, but the higher it is set, the more bandwidth is required to bring features in and draw them, thereby possibly affecting performance. Change this variable to allow for more or less WFS features to be displayed in the Map Viewer.

  1. Open the <Tomcat Install Dir>\WEB-INF\classes\ArcExplorerWeb.properties file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
  2. Scroll down to approximately line 88, where a variable called 'wfs.maxfeatures' is located.
  3. Modify the variable to any integer, keeping in mind the repercussions of high and low limits.
  4. In the Tomcat manager, restart the ArcExplorer application or restart all of Tomcat, if doing so does not interfere with performance or functionality of the system.
