Sun X11 Security Patch causes ArcGIS 9.2 failures on Solaris

Description

Sun Solaris X11 Security Patch ID 119059-27 for Solaris 10 and Sun Solaris X11 Security Patch ID 112785-62 for Solaris 9 cause the following problems:

ArcReader does not open 2D or 3D published maps (.pmf).

ArcGIS Server services do not start.

ArcIMS ArcMap services do not start.

ArcInfo Workstation ArcPlot Text commands are failing when using DISPLAY 9999 and using TrueType fonts or Intellifonts.

Note:
Higher versions of the Sun Solaris patches listed above may also cause these failures.

Cause

The above Solaris patches modify the behavior of the XCreateImage system call, which results in failures in the ArcGIS products.

ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS and ArcReader

Note:
ArcIMS Users
Check the /tmp, /var/tmp, and $AIMSHOME/log directories for extra files that may have been generated by the IMS user after Sun’s X11 patch was installed. Remove .tmp files or log files to free up space if needed.
