PROBLEM

Selecting another menu or tool cancels any drawing in progress

Description

While ArcMap is refreshing and redrawing the active view, any menu or toolbar actions, such as clicking on the File menu, result in the cancellation of the redraw.

Cause

This is by design.

Solution or Workaround

Wait until the redraw is completed before continuing any menu operations. If drawing is inadvertently cancelled, click the refresh view button or press the F5 key to trigger a full refresh of the view.
