Error Message

When checking out an image using the ArcPad Toolbar, the following error message is displayed:

"The extent of 'the image' is too large to export. Your license does not allow you to encode rasters of this size"

Cause

Using the Get Data for ArcPad tool automatically converts an image to Mr.SID format. The Mr.SID format is a Lizard Tech proprietary format which has a 50mb conversion limit in ArcMap.

Using the Get Data for ArcPad tool for ArcPad 6.x was necessary because 6.x only supported SID images. With the release of ArcPad 7.x, other image formats are supported, therefore it is not necessary to convert to a SID image.

Solution or Workaround

If using ArcPad 6.x and the image is not in the Mr.SID format, the 50mb conversion limit applies

If using ArcPad 7.x and one of the supported imagery types, copy the image to the mobile device via Windows Explorer. The only raster size limitation in ArcPad with supported image types is the storage space of the device.
