Problem: ArcCatalog crashes when geodatabase administrator browses to a backup location for an ArcSDE Personal or Workgroup geodatabase
When a user who is a geodatabase administrator, but not a server administrator, nor a Windows administrator, tries to create a backup file of an ArcSDE Personal or Workgroup geodatabase in a location other than the default location, ArcCatalog crashes.
When a user clicks the ellipses or browse button on the Backup geodatabase dialog box, a SQL Server function is called to return all the possible backup locations. This function can only be executed by a sysadmin user; users who are geodatabase administrators (db_owners) are unable to use this function.
Beginning with ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 2, the ellipses button is inactive if the connecting user is not a sysadmin (dbo) user.
Solution or Workaround
As the Geodatabase administrator, type the backup location directly into the 'Backup to folder' field on the Backup geodatabase dialog box or accept the default backup location.
