BUG

Cannot manage multiple versions in ArcMap with the Version Manager tool when data is from more than one geodatabase

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When managing versions in ArcMap with layers from different geodatabases, the version manager dialog displays only one particular geodatabase regardless of which layer or datasource is highlighted in the Table of Contents (TOC).

Cause

This is a known issue.

The ArcMap version manager determines the version to be managed from the properties of the topmost layer in the table of content. Highlighting in the TOC a different layer from another geodatabase and clicking the Version Manager tool on the versioning toolbar does not manage that geodatabase's versions.

Workaround

Use one of the following workarounds:

  • Drag a layer for the geodatabase to manage to the top of the TOC and use the Version Manager tool.
  • Use ArcCatalog's context menu to manage the version. Right-click on the specific geodatabase connection in ArcCatalog and select Versions to access the Version Manager Tool. The new version is accessible in the already opened map.
