Error: Failed to connect to registration server during registration process
During the registration process for ArcView or ArcEditor Single Use, the following error message is displayed:
"Failed to connect to registration server."
This happens because the computer has a firewall enabled, or does not have a network connection to the Internet.
Solution or Workaround
Verify the computer has a TCP/IP Internet connection and that any firewalls are disabled.
If a connection to the Internet can not be established and/or the firewall disabled, obtain a single use authorization file.
- Register ArcView or ArcEditor single use online and receive an authorization file by email at http://service.esri.com.
If you do not have any internet connection, call (888) 377-4575 or contact your local distributor.
- Once you receive the authorization file, *.ESU9 or *.TXT, save it to the computer and start the registration wizard. Navigate to Start > Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator, select the 'Register Single Use and Extensions' folder and then click the Register Now button.
- On the first screen of the registration wizard, select 'I have received an authorization file from ESRI' and then follow the rest of the wizard.
If Windows XP Service Pack 2 is installed, disable the Internet Connection Firewall. See the link in the Related Information section below for a Microsoft TechNet article on this procedure.
