Frequently asked question
No, Computed Columns (SQL Server) and Virtual Columns (Oracle and PostgreSQL) are not supported in ArcGIS geodatabases.
A computed/virtual column is populated dynamically and is not physically stored with the table. Computed/virtual columns are read-only. The geodatabase does not support auto-populated fields such as computed columns or automatically incrementing fields.
Database tables utilizing these columns can be viewed in ArcGIS using Query Layers or Database Views, but the tables or feature classes cannot be registered with the geodatabase. If a computed/virtual column is added to a table that is already registered with the geodatabase, the table cannot be enabled for archiving or registered as versioned for editing.
