Set proxy settings on a machine with standalone ArcReader installed

Summary

Instructions provided describe how to configure proxy settings on a machine that only has standalone ArcReader installed.

Procedure

A published map document that contains data from an Internet Service/GIS Server (ArcIMS, WMS, ArcGIS Server) that is outside of your firewall must have the registry settings manually changed to view the data in the standalone version of ArcReader.

WARNING: The instructions below include making changes to essential parts of your operating system. It is recommended that you backup your operating system and files, including the registry, before proceeding. Consult with a qualified computer systems professional, if necessary.

ESRI cannot guarantee results from incorrect modifications while following these instructions. Therefore, use caution and proceed at your own risk.

  1. On a machine with ArcCatalog and the Correct proxy settings, open the Registry:
    A. Select Start > Run.
    B. Type Regedit.
    C. Click OK.

  2. Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\CoreRuntime\Internet Settings

    This setting is specific to machines with proxy server settings.
  3. Hold down the control key and select:

    Enabled - 1/0 use proxyserver or not
    Address - ip/hostname of the proxyserver
    Username - proxyserver username (if required)
    Password - Encrypted proxyserver user password (if required)
  4. Select File > Export to create a .reg file.
  5. On the standalone ArcReader machine, open the Registry:
    A. Select Start > Run.
    B. Type Regedit.
    C. Click OK.
  6. Select File > Import to import the Registry file created in Step 4.
  7. Exit Regedit.
