Frequently asked question

Can Author display large images?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

ArcIMS Author has known limitations in displaying large images. When this limitation is encountered, the image does not display. To determine if you have encountered this limitation, open the Author Message Console from the Help menu and check for Out of Memory errors.

These steps help resolve the problem in Author:
· Increase memory parameters for the Java Virtual Machine. See the link in the Related Information section for Out of Memory.

· Use the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) libraries. Create an environment-variable Path to point to the JRE bin folder—for example, C:\Program Files\Javasoft\Jre\1.4.2\bin.

The image is still accessible via a Viewer. In order to be able to add an image in ArcIMS Author, a corresponding world file must be present in the same directory as the image file.

Access the image in Author, place a check next to the image in the legend and save the AXL file. Add it as a service in Administrator and proceed to create a website. View the website in an Internet browser.

Note:
The image may not display if it is large.
