PROBLEM

Rectified IKONOS raster display as black in ArcGIS 9.0

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When an 11-bit IKONOS image is rectified, the output is a 16-bit image and is displayed as black.

Cause

The 11-bit image is treated as a 16-bit image. Due to a known issue with calculating statistics, the image statistics are skewed and the image appears black.

Solution or Workaround

This problem has been resolved at ArcGIS Desktop 9.1. Use the following workaround for ArcGIS Desktop 9.0:

Use the Copy raster tool and specify the value 65535 as the NoData value for the output raster. This removes the 'black' value (65535) from statistics and cause a more correct color balance to occur.
