HOW TO

Add a service using data from a network drive.

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

If the following three ArcIMS Windows Services are running as a local user account, the ArcIMS Spatial Server does not have access to data on a network drive.

· ArcIMS Application Server
· ArcIMS Monitor
· ArcIMS Tasker

User accounts must have network privileges in order for the ArcIMS Spatial Server to use data that is located via the network.

The ArcIMS Windows services will need to be started by a user account that has network privileges and is known on the machine where the data is located.

Note:
To identify which user account is accessing the services, navigate to the Control Panel Services, double-click on ArcIMS Application Server, and select Logon tab.

Change each of the three ArcIMS services so they will be started using a domain account.

This user account also needs to have the Logon as Service privilege to be able to start the three services and should have read access to the data directory and share on the machine where the data is located.

Procedure

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > ArcIMS Application Service.
  2. Right-click and select Properties.
  3. Select the 'Log On' tab and change the account.
  4. Repeat the process for the ArcIMS Monitor and ArcIMS Tasker service.
  5. Stop the services in the order from bottom to top, e.g., Tasker, Monitor, Application Server, and then start them again from top down for the change to take effect.
