PROBLEM

Not all strings are translated with a National Language Supplement

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Some of the strings in ArcCatalog are not translated to the local language when using a National Language Supplement (NLS).

The NLS is a localized DLL for ArcGIS provided by international distributors. Once installed, the ArcGIS interface will display in the localized language specified in the NLS if the regional options of the machine in use are set to the corresponding locale.

Cause

Strings that originate in the normal.gxt file are not overwritten by the resource-only DLL's in the supplement.

Solution or Workaround

Delete the normal.gxt file from C:\documents and settings\<YOURLOGIN>\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog, and start ArcCatalog. The normal.gxt file will be re-created when you start ArcCatalog and the strings will now reflect the localization.
