Error: Error exporting data. Create output feature class failed
Note: The content in this article pertains to ArcGIS versions 8.x and 9.x only. Later versions of ArcGIS may contain different functionality, as well as different names and locations for menus, commands and geoprocessing tools.
Exporting a geodatabase feature class to a shapefile may result in the following error:
"Error exporting data. Create output feature class failed."
The feature class contains fields of types that are not supported by shapefiles. These field types include, Raster, BLOB, and GUID.
Solution or Workaround
To export the feature class to a shapefile, the fields of types not supported by shapefiles must be eliminated. One possible solution is provided below.
- Right click on the feature class in the table of contents, and click Properties. Click the Fields tab.
- De-select the fields that have the problem field types (Raster, BLOB, GUID).
- Export the feature class to a shapefile.
