Bug: Feature classes in ArcSDE 9.0 appear as tables to non-owners

** This issue has been resolved at the "ArcSDE 9.0 SQL Server Missing Feature Classes Patch" available through the link in the Related Information below. **

Feature classes stored in ArcSDE 9.0 for SQLServer may appear as tables instead of feature when viewed through an Spatial Database Connection. This does not occur for the owner of the feature class, but for other users who have been granted SELECT privileges to the data.

This can occur with case insensitive SQLServer databases for feature classes that have underscores or other non-alphanumeric characters in their names.

There are two workarounds:

  • Use only alpha-numeric characters in the feature class names.
  • Grant the db_datareader role to the SELECT grantees
