[ERRO418] An error occurred in parsing the map configuration file. Document root element is missing

Error Message

When trying to create an ArcMap Image Service on Unix gives, the following error message is displayed in the Administrator Message Console:

"[ERRO418] An error occurred in parsing the map configuration file. Document root element is missing"

When logging out of Administrator and logging back in, the service appears as stopped. Starting the service does not yield any error messages.

Cause

This is a known issue that is found to occur when ServletExec AS version 5.0 is used in conjunction with the Apache web server and ArcIMS 9.x on Solaris.

Solution or Workaround

ServletExec has released a patch that addresses this issue. The patch can be downloaded from the link in the Related Information section below. Patch 'ServletExec_5_0p02' or greater is required. Consult the 'ReadMe.txt' on how to implement the patch.

The version of Serlvet Exec 5.0 included on the ArcIMS installation CD, already contains this patch. ServletExec AS could also be re-installed using the version on the CD.
