When is it recommended to recycle virtual servers?

It is always recommended to recycle ArcMap Server virtual servers.

In addition, recycle the virtual servers when the following occurs:

• When a firewall ends idle connections between the ArcIMS Spatial Server and ArcSDE. Recycle all virtual servers before the idle timeout occurs.
• When an increasing amount of memory is used over time by the ArcIMS spatial server. Recycle all virtual servers to avoid the spatial server from consuming all the available memory.
