ERROR

STOP: 0x000000CE (0x....) parport.sys

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

After undocking a laptop from the docking station, plugging in a parallel hardware key and running any function that calls said hardware key, a STOP error occurs. Windows STOP errors are commonly refered to as the Blue Screen of Death or BSoD.

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: parport.sys

DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS"

Cause

While starting a laptop that is docked, a specific hardware profile is established, and the Sentinel driver is configured for that profile. When the laptop is undocked, the machine should use a second hardware profile, but the driver continues to assume the first profile, so a call to that driver causes it to crash.

Solution or Workaround

To avoid this error there are two options:

  • Instead of using the undock option, shut down the laptop when undocking it from the docking station and restart it, allowing the sentinel driver to initialize during the boot sequence.
  • After undocking, go to C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Sentinel System Driver\SetupSysDriver.exe. Launch the executable and click Stop NT parallel driver. Click Start NT parallel driver. Stop and restart the License Manager service, if necessary.
