PROBLEM

The ArcGIS 8.3 Desktop Help links to Spatial Analyst Functional Reference do not work

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

In the ArcGIS 8.3 Desktop Help, links to Spatial Analyst Functional Reference do not work.

Cause

There is a potential security problem in some of the code behind Microsoft's HTML Help, which could allow an attacker to launch malicious code through the Help files on a user's machine (see MS Security Bulletin MS03-004). Microsoft released a security patch (810847), which restricted Shortcut and WinHelp commands, which ESRI has used to access the Spatial Analyst Functional Reference at 8.3.

Solution or Workaround

Install ArcGIS Desktop 8.3 SP2.

If Microsoft's Q810847 has been installed, the subsequent patches from Microsoft must be installed to update the hhctrl.ocx file to the latest version. The most current version of the file is 5.2.3735.x. If the current version is not the latest version, several patches from Microsoft must be installed.

The patches needed include Q811630, and if IE6 is being used, 813951 is also necessary.
